You can change the future one child at a time

Jamie and Steve Levine invite you to......
A musical celebration featuring the amazing Maia Sharp, and other special guests.

The Hottest Musician ever to Hit Shrewsbury!

The Date:

Saturday, March 11th, 2006 - 730PM

Hoagland/Pincus Amphitheater
On the Grounds of the Worcester Foundation
222 Maple Avenue
Shrewsbury, Massachusetts

The Cause:  In Massachusetts alone, more than 10,000 children - innocent victims of abuse, neglect or abandonment, are in Foster Care homes.  As tragic as that may seem, it is compounded by the fact that less than half the amount of Foster Parents exist to accomodate the needs of these children.  Because of this incredible lack of available care, it is almost inevitable that when children are removed from a home by DSS, siblings are separated and placed in different foster homes, often far from each other, and with little or no contact with each other.  Clearly this is a double tragedy....to lose one's parents and one's siblings at the same time must be the worst possible thing that can happen to a young child. Many of you know that we take in these children into our home, and we can tell you first hand that it pulls at your heart strings like nothing I've ever experienced.

Camp To Belong is a national non-profit organization, that operates a summer camp on Cape Cod who's sole reason for existence is to bring together siblings in the foster care system, so that they can spend their summer together and reconnect with their brothers and sisters who are often the only real family they have.

100% of the profit from this event will go to fund summer camp programs for these children.
You can visit there website at www.camptobelong.org

Reviews:

"Maia's CD is absolutely wonderful. I'm so glad I got to write with her. Maia is an old soul and a new friend."
- Carole King

"There is a string attached to Maia Sharp's voice. And when she sings, you find that the other end is attached to your gut. Her voice is lush and sensual and the emotions she articulates resonate with the small feelings we have that sometimes are hard to face..there is an edge to her songs, but also a softness...she is lyrical and conversational at the same time. Her CD was the only one in my machine for a month. Her work inspires me to dig deeper."
- Kathy Mattea

Maia is making some of the most innovative and soulful music around with songs that are head and shoulders above the rest. She has become one of my favorite artists. Fine Upstanding Citizen is a brilliant album, start to finish."
- Bonnie Raitt

- Art Garfunkel

"Her songs have the harmonic twists and turns that always kill me, her voice gets to my very heart and soul, and she still manages to deliver those classic, fabulous hooks."
- Jonatha Brooke

Special Guest:     Kate Klim
The 23 year old Music Sensation that is sweeping the Northeast.
(Click Kate's picture to hear her latest clip)

Bio and Review:

Klim attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and honed her skills as a performer. Her song, "Heaven Help Me," which she penned for a songwriting master class, was featured on the 2003 "Best of Boston" singer-songwriter compilation CD.

Influenced by musicians like Carole King, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, John Lennon, Patty Griffin and Jonatha Brooke, Klim developed her own folk/pop style. She released her debut album this year, which has received airplay on WERS and WMFO in Boston, and on CreativeRadio's Internet folk show. She's also appeared on the Boston area cable show "Roots Rock Live."

Although she's only 21, Klim has toured in numerous east coast venues. She recently opened for Jeffrey Gaines at Philadelphia's North by Northwest.

Review:
Kate Klim's angelic voice harnesses purity. Delicate, flowing and lush, it portrays an incisive, emotional honesty. She engages audiences with flowing pop/folk rhythms and captures melodies inside her energetic piano playing. A talented songwriter, Klim has the inherent ability to craft an entire world within a single song.

Don't forget... we may have some other special guests added to the bill.....

Special Guest:     John Cate Band

CMJ / John Cate Band

Though the John Cate Band is essentially a sizzling Americana outfit, it's impossible to deny the shades of John Lennon and Roy Orbison that permeate its sound. Cate's voice may be closer to an earthier Mellencamp, but "Standin' Here Alone" shares Orbison's affinity for soaring melodies and Tom Petty's love for harmonica-drenched folk-rock arrangements. "Invisible Man," a song about a disappearance due to neglect, manages to capture some of Lennon's caustic solo attitude without sounding overly Beatle-y. Like Lennon, Cate was born in Liverpool, but he was raised mostly in the US. Perhaps that's why his music so effectively straddles both sides of the pond in a first-rate roots-rock fashion.

Boston Globe / Live at the House of Blues

Amid mainstream acts, talent shines through

Record producer Anthony J. Resta has worked on eight gold and platinum albums by international acts such as Duran Duran and Collective Soul. He is also trying to spice up the Boston scene with his Chelmsford-based Studio Bopnique Musique, embracing a variety of local musicians who might otherwise fall through the cracks. Some might be talented, some might be vanity acts, and some might be Top 40 cover bands looking to do original material to get to the next level. It's a motley but fascinating stable. Seven of Resta's acts were on display Monday at the House of Blues. It was a decidedly mixed evening, though there were flashes of talent, suggesting that Resta's work has not been in vain. Most acts, though, had a mainstream-style sound that may make it hard to penetrate the Boston scene, with its love of alternative pop music.

The standout was John Cate, whose sound is influenced by the Eagles and Bob Dylan. Cate's "Learn to Love Someone" cooked like a track off Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde" album. The melodies were substantial, and the band rode a groove throughout. Cate also helped set up the showcase, so it was fitting that he played so well.
